New Web Site: www.ems.gov![]() This new web site, hosted by NHTSA EMS, was developed to meet the varied needs of the EMS community and contains background and updates on Federal EMS initiatives and programs. NHTSA Office of EMS (OEMS) Mission Statement: The mission of the NHTSA OEMS is to reduce death and disability by providing leadership and coordination to the EMS community in assessing, planning, developing, and promoting comprehensive, evidence-based emergency medical services and 9-1-1 systems. This web site is well worth exploring to learn what is going on in EMS around the country, and what new programs and ideas are coming up. Bookmark it and re-visit often! |
News from STREMS Council STREMS Council and STREMAC meetings are web cast live. Check the meeting schedule (www.stremscouncil.org/meetings.html) and tune in to see and hear the live action. The video is also available on demand for 30 days following the meeting. Go to www.emstar.org and click on “STREMS Council Web Casting Site” At the May Council meeting, three regional Course Sponsorships were approved for two-year renewal: Schuyler County and Corning Hospital for BLS courses, and EMSTAR for specialty courses. Frank Brzozowski was recommended as a Certified Lab Instructor, and Teri Symonds was recommended as a Certified Instructor/Coordinator. Next Council meeting will be September 18. Operation SafeEMS: Injury Prevention & Patient Handling Safety Program Ferno and McNeil & Company have partnered to bring you Operation SafeEMSTM, an interactive training program designed to promote safety and reduce the risk of injury for EMS providers and their patients during patient handling. This is a specialized training program that has been developed to promote safety and reduce the risk of injury for EMS providers and their patients during transfer and transport. It may be used individually or in a group setting. It covers provider health and safety, safe patient handling techniques, selecting & using appropriate tools & equipment, development of critical thinking skills, application & evaluation of skills learned. The Operation SafeEMSTM Program CD is available FREE OF CHARGE to Ferno and McNeil & Company customers and to agencies, organizations, and educational institutions who would like to incorporate it into their training program.
